The Rise of AI

The idea that robots will eventually take over the world is not a new concept. Even before most advanced artificial intelligence was open to the public, movies and TV shows have covered this topic for many decades. All of these of course have different depictions of how this world takeover would happen, so how does AI in the real world actually work? AI such as ChatGPT or Google's Bard have the same goal: mimic human behavior to "think" and "process" information. Modern-day AI use large amounts of information that they have access to in order to do this and are also highly efficient in sorting through info and utilizing pattern recognition. Essentially, as people use AI more, it will become smarter and better at mimicking humans.

Since it's constantly getting smarter, it's understandable how one can think to the extent that it will take over the world one day. But, AI right now is definitely not at that level yet. The most common uses for generative AI are school and social media. Due to AI's ability to generate original text based on a prompt, it's seen the most popularity among children in school who don't feel like doing their homework. However, it's not uncommon for AI to produce information that is incorrect or off in some way. Furthermore, there are ways to detect AI writing because it's not actually a human writing it. AI images also have raised concerns recently, but these also have distinctive features that a real photo would not have such as extra fingers, too glossy skin, and messed up eye contact.

For now, AI is still too easily detectable and too unintelligent to come close to taking over the world to any extent. It's a tool that everyone should become comfortable using because it's everywhere, but who knows if that's a good thing. I think AI will become essential to people's everyday life because, for the most part, it already is we just don't realize it.
